Marianne Jones - Havana (Miramar) &
Santiago de Cuba "Thanks for your message
and for all your help in organising my trip. I had a fantastic
time thanks! Exploring two very different parts of Cuba was
really interesting. Both experiences were great, for different
reasons. Havana:
There was so much to do and see here - far too much to fit into
one week! Most students had also come to Havana alone, so everyone
was there to meet new people, go out, and dance! Also there
was a good mix of nationalities, ages and backgrounds. The Salsa
lessons were a top highlight - excellent fun! Also, in Havana
I tended to socialise with a big group of other students. This
is was great fun, but also meant that I spoke alot of English.
Santiago de Cuba:
During my week in Santiago, I spoke Spanish 95% of the time.
The student group was much smaller and there were not as many
arranged activities in the evenings. I spent most of my time
with Cubans - my host family (they were fantastic), dance teacher,
Spanish teacher, and
their friends. My individual language classes in Santiago were
excellent. Both my Spanish and Salsa teachers took great care
to tailor the classes to my needs and level.
The biggest problem I came across was lack of time! Spending
one week in each destination meant that I wasn't able to go
on a weekend excursion. I didn't get time to see the surrounding
area - or the beach - there's always next year!
Thanks again for all your help.
Marianne" |
