It's ballroom time again, with Strictly Come Dancing launching a new set of celebrities on to the dance floor. But if you don't know your merengue from your macarena, perhaps it's time you booked a dancing holiday to learn your favourite moves on location.

Annabelle Thorpe selects the most fabulous courses around the world - from tango in Argentina to line dancing in the Algarve. So, take your passport by the hand and take these steps to find a great dance holiday...

Salsa in Barcelona

Translated literally, salsa means 'sauce' and the dance is true to its name, with plenty of hip-swivelling involved. To really immerse yourself, make for Barcelona, Spain's party city, and combine salsa and Spanish classes.

A one-week course offers language lessons in the morning, salsa lessons in the afternoon and evenings out on the town, practising your steps (and your vocab) in some of the city's hippest bars and clubs. From £499pp through Cactus Language (01273 725200; www.cactuslanguage.com).
