Santiago De Cuba, Cuba

If there was ever a time to go to Cuba it’s now. Basking in the Caribbean under Castro’s watchful eye, the island is opening its arms to tourism but not quite letting go…yet.

:: Welcome to Santiago De Cuba
Santiago de Cuba lies on the eastern Caribbean shore of Cuba in
an attractive horseshoe-shaped bay, sheltered from wind and sea.
The climate is sultry and the heat oppressive. It's hard to imagine,
that in the distant mountains of the Sierra Maestra Fidel Castro
and Che Guevara began plotting their revolutionary attacks in the
early 1950s. But it's not just this that gives la ciudad héroe a
unique place in Cuban history. Go further back and you'll see that
it was here on the island that African slaves were first brought,
and here that many migrants first landed - and stayed. Hence we
have an incredible hotpot of cultures, colours, beliefs and traditions.
The Santiago of today taps its feet to the rhythm of son and clicks
to the sound of horse-drawn carts, but most of all it's the people
who will get to you with their warmth and infectious love of life.
