Hamburg, Germany

Germany is one of Europe's most diverse and interesting countries, with many of its cities acting as open-air museums and much of its countryside offering breathtaking views and open space in which to enjoy various outdoor activities.

:: Welcome to Hamburg
Euros make the world go round in Germany's northern city of Hamburg. The official home of the country's
greatest number of millionaires owes a large part of its wealth to its strategic position on three rivers which,
incidentally, give the city the honour of having six times more bridges than Venice. Add to this its quaint canals,
vast green urban spaces and beautiful architecture and this really does seem quite an inviting place to learn
the language and immerse yourself in the culture - and there's certainly lots of that. Having survived two world
wars and a devastating fire in the 19th century, Hamburgers are justifiably proud of their city and today you'll
see a friendly mix of students, workers and foreigners going about their daily lives and enjoying the huge variety
of entertainment and dining by night. And if you're wondering how you're going to see this all, just
do as the locals and rent a bike - remember to avoid the skaters and then it's all plain sailing as the city is
beautifully flat.
