The first port of call for many visitors to Bavaria may be Munich, yet it's Regensburg that wins the hearts of many for being one of Germany's most lively and beautiful cities. Lying in the northeast of the state, near the Czech border, Regensburg sits gracefully on the Danube River and amongst its cobbled streets lie relics of history dating from Roman times, pieces of magnificent architecture and plenty of places to sample its most famous local delicacy, the Regensburger bratwurstl sausage. Add to this a charming local population and a wealth of cafés and beer gardens, it's not surprising that Regensburg is one place not to be missed, and a great one at that to learn German.
